Ottawa police say a fire that broke out in a vacant building on Booth Street early Thursday morning was set deliberately.

The fire happened in the 300 block of Booth Street in Ottawa's Little Italy neighbourhood just before 4 a.m.

A preliminary examination of the scene showed that the fire was started deliberately.

Booth Street was closed between Balsam and Poplar streets for a little over an hour as emergency crews investigated the scene.

Another fire in the same area Tuesday left ten people homeless.
