The Minnesota man accused of aiding the suicide of a Carleton University student is waiving his right to trial.

William Melchert-Dinkel, a former nurse, allegedly posed as a woman in online chat rooms and persuaded 18-year-old Nadia Kajouji and a man in England to take their own lives.

Melchert-Dinkel's decision means he won't testify in the case, nor will his lawyers be able to cross-examine witnesses.

Kajouji disappeared from her dorm room in March 2008. Her body was found in the Rideau River a month later.

A judge is expected to deliver a verdict within the next 10 days.

If convicted, Melchert-Dinkel could face 30 years in prison.
