Manor Park shooting leaves man dead, Ottawa police investigating
The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit is investigating a shooting that happened Friday evening in Manor Park.
Police say they received a call around 9:22 p.m. reporting a shooting leaving one man injured on Birch Avenue in the city's east end. Upon arrival, they found a 53-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. He then succumbed to his injuries “shortly thereafter."
Though no arrests have been made, the city’s police do not believe there is a risk to public safety.
In an update Saturday afternoon, police said the victim has been identified as Kevin Willington, 53.
Residents in the area say they were shocked by shooting. Some residents were alerted by a Manor Park community group.
“We got an email this morning, and I guess a shock would be a good way to describe it, but it was more of a, 'Really? Here?'" said Manor Park resident Sophie Bilfield.
“It's a really sad, unfortunate thing that's happened,” she said. “I hope that it gets resolved and they catch whoever did this."
