The commute on Woodroffe Avenue will be slowed starting Monday as the next phase of new water main construction begins.

Southbound lanes from Slack Road to Knoxdale Road will be closed, and traffic moved to northbound lanes. A single lane will be open in each direction, with transit lanes and sidewalks not affected.

The news release on Rideau-Golbourn councilor Scott Moffatt's website said the southbound lanes will be closed as long as the construction lasts. Turning restrictions will be in place at the intersection of Woodroffe and Hunt Club Road, and speed restrictions will be in effect.

The release also said the south entrance to the Nepean Sportsplex will be closed.

The city said residents are encouraged to use public transit or take alternate routes. OC Transpo has increased their capacity in South Nepean.

The construction is to replace a 35-year-old water main that broke in January. The city said repairs have been accelerated so an outdoor water ban for the area can be ended as quickly as possible.
