The victim in Wednesday's fatal crash between a car and transport truck on Highway 17 has been identified.
Ontario Provincial Police say 51-year-old David Bean of Caledon, Ontario, was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla when he collided with a transport truck on Highway 17 around 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 26th, 2015.
Bean was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the transport truck, 36-year-old Roy Sylvain, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses say Bean was in the valley on an annual vacation with his wife and two kids. His family was staying at the Logos Land Resort when the crash happened.
Val Boldt works at the Logos Land Resort and witnessed the accident.
"I just happened to glance out the window and I saw the back part of the transport cab hitting the dirt on the side of the road and it went flying. I thought, oh no," said Boldt.
Police say the car was driving eastbound when it entered the westbound lane and was struck head on by the transport truck. The transport truck, carrying a load of sawdust, was fully engulfed when emergency responders arrived on scene.
Highway 17 between Forrester Falls and Chenaux Rd. was closed for more than 12 hours Wednesday as collision investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash and clear debris from the site. The highway re-opened early Thursday morning.
