Cars and buses are finally flowing along Bank Street this weekend after years of construction, bringing long-awaited relief for businesses and motorists.

Crews spent Friday finishing up the last renovations on the downtown Ottawa street, which now features wider sidewalks and new street furniture.

But the heavy noise and dust from construction caused concern for businesses along the promenade, who said they were concerned pedestrians would be scared off by the disruption even though businesses remained open.

The $18-million renovation closed off sections of the street every summer. It also disrupted bus routes as the area is a major corridor for transit in downtown Ottawa.
