Thousands of Renfrew County residents are still waiting to get power back after Monday’s storm, a process that could take until Thursday night for some.
Hydro One said about 1,200 customers in the Calabogie and rural Arnprior areas and 847 in the Cobden area should get their power back by midnight Wednesday.
About 1,000 other customers in the area will have to wait until Thursday night to get their power back after severe thunderstorms hit late Monday afternoon.
Inside the affected area is Norway Lake, where cottagers are trapped inside their community by trees that had fallen over the road and onto houses.
"Glass splattered, the tree came down and the roof came down," said Hellen Anderson of the tree that fell on an area where five kids were playing.
"They were lucky (to only get bumps and scratches) . . . we could have all died."
Environment Canada said a large burst of wind called a "macroburst" caused the damage, although there was some evidence of tornado-like activity.
Hydro One said it will likely be Friday before 47 customers have power again.
"Personally I'm sort of frustrated, because there is no assistance. It's just flat no," said Denis Gauthier. "Now we're trying to get emergency, trying to get the province to step in."
