Although there are now more than 50 cases of H1N1 influenza confirmed in Canada, there are still no confirmed cases in the Ottawa-area.

The city's medical officer of health says tests on four of the five patients who were being monitored for the virus have come back negative.

"We're still seeing, by far the majority of causes, certainly outside of Mexico, that have been confirmed to be caused by this virus are still seeming to be mild. It's a very good sign for the near future," said Dr. Isra Levy.

Ontario now has at least 12 confirmed cases of the virus, all in the Toronto-area.

Levy says the most important thing people can do to protect themselves from the virus is to wash their hands frequently.

If you need to sneeze, he says it's important to cover your mouth with your hands or your sleeve.
