Friends of a teen killed in a street racing crash last week hit the basketball court Tuesday to help their friend's family pay for his funeral.
Christian Williams, 18, was killed in a high-speed collision in Barrhaven two days before his high school graduation.
Nearly 200 people participated in the fundraiser, pounding basketballs to the pavement -- doing what Williams loved most.
"The day before the accident he was here. He played with everyone, so we're just going to do the same thing," said friend Rami Buhaisi.
The money collected will be sent to Williams' family to help pay for his funeral in Nova Scotia, where the star basketball player will be buried next to his mother.
Williams, known to his friends as Sisco, died when the car he was driving slammed into a light standard, pinning him inside his Honda Civic. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
The driver of the other vehicle, also 18, is charged with street racing and driving without a license.
Those who wish to make a donation to Williams' family can visit the Scotiabank branch at Woodroffe Avenue and Stoneway Drive.
