The Ottawa Senators have a new defenceman who is second in the league when it comes to blocking shots.

The Sens acquired Andy Sutton from the New York Islanders Tuesday, in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft.

Sutton, a 34-year-old Kingston, Ont. native, is an 11-year NHL veteran who was in his third season with the Islanders.

He has four goals, eight assists and 73 penalty minutes in 54 games played this season. He has the second-most blocked shots in the NHL and leads the Islanders in hits.

Sutton, who is six feet six inches tall and 245 pounds, has previously played for the San Jose Sharks, Minnesota Wild and Atlanta Thrashers.

The second-round draft pick included in the deal was acquired by the Senators from the San Jose Sharks when the team traded Dany Heatley and a fifth-round draft choice for Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo.

The trade deadline is set for Wednesday at 3 p.m. EST.
