An eight-year-old Gatineau girl will return home from a trip to Wonderland to learn her father is dead.
He was shot outside his Aylmer home on 16 Conroy Road allegedly by a police officer Saturday morning.
Gatineau Police are releasing few details, but have confirmed that there was gun fire at the location around 11:30 a.m.
Shortly after, a man was taken to hospital with serious gunshot wounds but died later that night.
Robert LeClair told CTV Ottawa that it was his brother David who was shot by police Saturday morning.
LeClair said police showed up at his brother's door, allegedly to investigate a complaint filed by David's girlfriend.
"He said, 'You're under arrest now.' He took out his pepper spray, sprayed, and then took out his black stick, hitting him with it in the house," said LeClair.
LeClair said the officer then led David outside and told him to lie on the ground. When David refused, the officer took out his gun and threatened to shoot him.
When David still refused, LeClair said the officer shot his brother three times in the side.
"My brother-in-law was on the floor, shot three times. The cop was still there, he had the gun in his holster but his hand was on it, he didn't want to let it go," said Robert Pombert, the alleged victim's brother-in-law.
Gatineau police confirmed a man was shot, but wouldn't confirm much else.
"What we know right now, we know that shots were fired in front of 16 Conroy Road," said Const. Isabelle Poirier, spokesperson for the Gatineau Police.
The victim's brother says he has already called his lawyer.
"I don't think that was right. I think it was cruelty," said LeClair.
The Sret du Qubec has been called in to investigate the incident.
The provincial police force is typically called to investigate when municipal police are involved in an intervention that has caused injury or death.
