Gatineau police say an investigation into the deaths of a 36-year-old woman and her young son last February reveals their deaths were not a result of crime.

Neighbours and friends were in shock and disbelief when the lifeless bodies of Martine Fortin and her 18-month-old son Mathis Fournier were found in their Mont Bleu home on Feb. 22, 2008.

Police were called to check on the woman when a friend reported she had not heard from Fortin in two weeks.

Police say autopsy and toxicology tests have determined the mother died of a drug overdose. Her son died of dehydration and starvation.
