Westboro and Petrie Island beaches were both slapped with no swim advisories on Saturday after heavy rainfall caused sewage overflows into the Ottawa River.

E.coli levels at both municipal beaches were higher than what's deemed safe by the City of Ottawa.

However, O'Brien Beach at Meech Lake has reopened after a week-long closure to study the presence of blue algae.

Testing showed that toxin levels were not harmful and that the algae bloom has dissipated, according to the National Capital Commission.
