Ottawa police are investigating two south-end robberies on Tuesday night they believe could be linked.

They said the first happened in the 2400 block of Bank Street around 6:50 p.m., when a man entered a store holding a large knife and demanded money.

He got an undisclosed amount and then fled, according to police.

Less than 90 minutes later, police said a man holding a large knife tried to rob a restaurant at the Billings Bridge Mall.

When an employee was approached and asked for money, he was able to get back inside the restaurant – leaving the suspect with nothing.

Police describe the suspect in both instances as a Caucasian man about five feet eleven inches tall, having a stocky build and scruffy appearance between 25 and 35 years of age.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa police’s robbery unit at 613-236-1222 extension 5116 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.
