Ontario Provincial Police say charges have been laid following a "major assault" early Saturday morning in Arnprior.

Officers were called to an address on River Road at around 1:50 a.m. for a disturbance. Police revealed in a news release Saturday afternoon that two people had been assaulted, after which their alleged attackers fled.

The extent of the two victims' injuries is unknown.

Police said three people have been arrested and are each facing charges of assault with a weapon, trespassing at night, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and aggravated assault.

Jade White, 18, of Arnprior; Ramon Jacob Vasquez-Acres, 19, of Renfrew; and Matteo Antonucci, 18, of Renfrew remain in custody and are awaiting bail hearings.

In a post on Twitter, OPP said the investigation remains ongoing and there is no threat to public safety, but advised residents that a "large police presence" would be visible in Arnprior and Renfrew.
