The nearly week-long brush fire off Moodie Drive in west Ottawa is finally under control.

Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Marc Messier said crews will remain on the scene of the fire, which started Thursday, to keep an eye on conditions.

About 20 firefighters are on scene as of Wednesday afternoon, but the large command post is being dismantled.

National Capital Commission staff will be watching the area during the night.

Messier said if 72 hours pass without any flare-ups then the fire will be declared officially extinguished.

Several firefighters have been treated for heat exhaustion during the fire, which was sparked in the middle of a weeks-long drought.
