A 38-year-old Richmond man is facing charges in connection with a road rage incident that involved a machete.

Police say Richard Laurin was driving westbound on Highway 417 during the evening rush hour on Thursday when he apparently got frustrated with the driver in front of him.

When traffic came to a stand-still, police say Laurin allegedly got out of his vehicle and struck the other vehicle with a machete. There were three people in that vehicle.

Police say the two drivers then drove to the Ottawa police station, where the provincial police were called.

Laurin was arrested for three counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief, causing a disturbance and following too close on the highway.
