Former Ottawa Senator Mike Fisher expressed his gratitude to hockey fans in a full page ad he took out in the Sunday edition of the Ottawa Citizen.
His note was very personal and thanked Ottawans for everything they've done for Fisher and his family.
"I did not want to leave Ottawa without expressing my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the entire community," he said. "It was a lot of fun playing in front of some of the greatest hockey fans in the world."
Fisher also said it was his honour to work with community groups such as Roger's House.
On Majic 100 radio Monday morning, Mayor Jim Watson thanked Fisher and his wife, country music superstar Carrie Underwood, for giving their hearts to the city.
Fisher was traded to the Nashville Predators last week.
