TORONTO - CTV is closing two of its Ontario television stations, saying the economic model for television in this country is broken.

In a release, the media giant says it will not renew the licences for its Wingham and Windsor stations when they expire at the end of August.

Paul Sparkes, executive vice-president of corporate affairs at CTVglobemedia, says the decision was difficult and warns the company may need to consider similar action in other markets.

Sparkes adds the `traditional economic model for Canadian television is broken.'

The stations, CKNX-TV and CHWI-TV, operate under the A brand.

The company says the decision will leave the Wingham and Windsor communities without local CTV news, and viewers in the two communities will have to turn to the A brand station in London.
