The Ontario Government announced Wednesday more steps to protect firefighters in the province.
Six cancers will be added to the list of those presumed to be linked to their work.
The government said breast cancer, multiple myeloma and testicular cancer will be added to the list immediately. Prostate cancer, lung cancer and skin cancer will be phased in by 2017.
Among those already on the list: bladder cancer, brain cancer and certain types of leukemia.
There have been two cancer-related deaths among Ottawa firefighters in three weeks.
Premier Kathleen Wynne said the changes will make it easier for firefighters to qualify for benefits under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act by reversing the burden of proof for those seeking coverage.
