Ottawa firefighters have downgraded the amount of damage caused by a spectacular fire at a two-storey home in Ottawa South.

Several 911 calls reported heavy flames at 616 White Alder Ave.  The home is in a sub-division near Leitrim Road and Albion Road.

Ottawa fire initially estimated damage to the home at $750,000.  The blaze caused radiant damage to surrounding homes, bringing the earlier estimated total to $1 million. Damage is now estimated at about $480,000, including contents and impact on the two adjacent homes.

There are no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Police do not believe arson is a factor in this blaze.
