Canada is the only remaining bidder vying to host the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, putting Ottawa fans one step closer to being able to watch international soccer action in the capital.
Zimbabwe dropped out of the running on Tuesday afternoon, making Canada the only contender left. However, FIFA executives still have to evaluate Canada's bid. The winning bidder will also host the Under 20 Women's World Cup in 2014.
The City of Ottawa approved $400,000 two weeks ago to support the bid.
Six other Canadian cities have shown interest in being a host city for the tournament, including Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montreal, Edmonton, Halifax and Moncton.
However, only six Canadian cities will be selected to host the international sporting event.
Tournament officials are expected to officially announce the host country on Thursday. Once the announcement is made, the host cities will be selected.
