City commits $400K to get Women's World Cup

The City of Ottawa is looking to net two major women's soccer tournaments.

Ottawa city council has approved spending $400,000 to support bids for two FIFA soccer tournaments.

The City of Ottawa and the Canada Soccer Association are hoping to host the Under-20 Women's World Cup in 2014 and the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015.

Ottawa served as a host city for the Men's Under-20 World Cup tournament in 2007. The tournament generated about $12 million in economic spin-offs.
