With the new month of November will come a new leader in Chelsea: one of two newcomers vying for the top spot.

Longtime Chelsea leader Jean Perras previously announced he would step down.

So Carly Green and Liam Fitzgerald are both vying for the leadership during the Gatineau elections Nov. 1, with platforms that focus on the municipal budget.

"People feel there has been a lot of spending, but it's been's been necessary," says Green.

"We've put in two fire stations, three sewage systems and there's been a need to spend and invest in the communty."

Not so, argues, Fitzgerald, who says the region has been too free-wheeling in tough economic times.

"We need to get a hold of our spending, we need to get that under control and manage finances in more responsible manner."

The candidates are centreing on a $9.8 million community centre that passed with a slim majority -- 53 per cent in a referendum -- but could be open up to review under council next year.
