A Belleville, Ont., police officer honoured for his work this spring has been suspended with pay after being charged with criminal offences.

The officer is charged with criminal harassment and breach of trust in a series of alleged incidents involving a woman that date back to September 2010.

Provincial police say the charges stem from the officer's use of police station computers while off-duty but are not releasing details.

Eric Shorey, 34, is scheduled to appear in Picton Court on Aug. 22.

He received a commendation of valour in May for coming to the aid of a woman whose husband was threatening her with a meat cleaver.
