Most of the moisture on the Ottawa Bluesfest grounds this year came in the form of sweat, as hot, dry weather and dance-friendly artists were the themes of the 2012 festival.

Sunday is the last day of the annual event, which saw one short sprinkle of rain and temperatures that reached into the 40s with humidity.

“This is the first year I can recall (sunshine) day after day after day,” said AJ Sauve, director of media relations. “But I love the sunshine.”

“They've been handing out spray bottles with fans,” said Katie Hughes. “Last night I heard they were spraying the crowd with a hose so that was great.”

Highlights of this year’s festival included electronic acts Tiesto, LMFAO and Skrillex (who tweeted Sunday that Saturday night’s show was one of his favourites) to go with an entire stage dedicated to EDM (electronic dance music) that catered to a younger crowd

There were rock sets by Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, Nickelback and John Mellancamp and rappers Lauryn Hill, Big Boi and Snoop Dogg.

Many local artists were also showcased at LeBreton Flats starting July 4.

“We're blessed to have a huge festival like this . . .that gives 60 local bands a chance to play a huge concert,” said Rob Bennett of The Bushpilots. “They take really good care of you.”

Sunday night’s lineup includes K’naan, Wintersleep, The Weeknd, The Trews and Metric.
