Ottawa and eastern Ontario could be soaked by up to 100 mm of rain to start off the work week.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Ottawa, Brockville, Leeds and Grenville, Cornwall, Morrisburg, Prescott and Russell, Smiths Falls, Lanark, Sharbot Lake, Stirling and Tweed.

A slow moving disturbance is expected to generate significant rainfall amounts over eastern Ontario.

Periods of rain, heavy at times, will drop 40 to 100 mm of rain on Ottawa by Tuesday morning.

The record for greatest rainfall in Ottawa on July 24 is 59 mm, set back in 1987.

Ottawa has already received 166 mm of rain in July.

Rain Sunday evening ended a stretch of five consecutive days without rain in Ottawa (July 18 to 22). That was the longest stretch of dry weather in Ottawa in 2017.
