An Ottawa man charged with manslaughter in the 2010 death of a 15-month-old child appeared in Gatineau court Thursday morning.

Tyler Hunt, 29, briefly appeared in court wearing a black collared workout shirt with white trim. He was slightly unshaven, and remained quiet while looking at the judge during the hearing.

He was released on $1,000 bail.

The new charges stem from the 2010 case, when police were called to a Gatineau home after reports a baby was found dead. The child was pronounced dead in hospital about a day later.

The cause of death was not determined, but now police say new technology and a review of the case has allowed them to determine the child died of a "non-accidental" fatal head injury.
