The Ottawa Hospital is laying off staff.

The Hospital announces it will eliminate 290 full time jobs, including 90 nurses.  The cuts are designed to save 22 million dollars, to help reduce a projected 31 million dollar deficit.

The rest of the money is expected to be found through savings and other revenue sources.

By law, the Ontario Hospitals must deliver balanced budgets to the provincial government.

There is a staff meeting planned for 1pm today.

The Hospital says it will cut 90 nurses, 100 administration jobs, and 100 other medical support staff.

There are 77-hundred full time employees at the Ottawa Hospital.
