The Ottawa Carleton District School Board has outlined its top priorities for its capital budget at a meeting last night. A new high school for Stittsville tops the list.

A number of Stittsville parents were at the meeting, pushing to prioritize a new public high school for their community. They got the response they were looking for.

“The number one priority here is a new high school in Stittsville” said Mark Fisher, a trustee for the OCDSB.

Stittsville has an English catholic and French catholic secondary school, but no public high school.

Many students transferred to Sacred Heart High School or travel outside their area.

The school board says a new school would accommodate over 130 students at a cost of 36 million.

Other top priorities include additions at AY Jackson secondary, Viscount Alexander Public and Elm Dale public school.
