The people at the Ottawa Convention Centre sat eagerly in their seats Friday night, not knowing the hustle and bustle happening behind the scenes at the Ottawa Fashion Week show they came to see.

Ottawa designer Stacey Bafi-Yeboa came to showcase her Kania line, one of 21 designers appearing during the multi-day event at the centre.

"I'm hoping to take it as far as my eyes can imagine," she said as her 75 models were prepared by hundreds of stylists to strut their stuff.

Bafi-Yeboa said she created her line nine years ago and runs an outlet on York Street in Ottawa.

The Caribbean-inspired line, whose name means "light", is sold across the country.

"Women, whatever size . . . they inspire me," she said.

Those in the crowd said they felt the same towards the designer and the atmosphere she created for the show.

"I wanted to get up there and start dancing," one said.

"The designs were amazing. The colours were fantastic," said another.

Ottawa Fashion Week began Thursday and wraps up Saturday night, with a show from well-known fashionista Jeanne Beker.

Bafi-Yeboa said the week has come a long way in six years, but there's still work to do.

"We still need Ottawa Fashion Week . . . so that people can get excited about it," she said.
