Liquidation sales begin today at 59 Sears stores slated for closure, including five in the Ottawa area.

The one-time retail giant will be selling discounted merchandise, fixtures and equipment at the stores so it can maximize benefits for its stakeholders.

Shoppers will see savings of up to 50% off on men's and women's apparel, children's wear, footwear, bed and bath, home decor, fitness, toys, furniture, mattresses, major appliances, hardware, luggage and more.

Sears has been operating under court protection from its creditors since June, when it announced plans to shutter 59 stores and cut approximately 2,900 jobs. The retailer has until October 12 to vacate the premises slated for closure.

The Sears Home store on Innes Road in Ottawa’s east-end is slated for closure. Other Sears stores set to close include Sears Stores in Hull and Brockville, the Sears Outlet store in Cornwall and the Sears Home store in Kingston.
