She's known affectionately as the grand dame of golf.  Laura Davies has won so many tournaments; she was made a "dame" by the Queen. Well now she's proving she is worthy of that title both on and off the course.  This story started with a ride in a rental car and a lost iPad that Laura Davies found and insisted on returning to its owner, despite having just a few other things on her mind, like a golf tournament?

Laura Davies draws a crowd wherever she plays.

Little wonder.  The British golfer and World Golf Half of Famer is a powerhouse, the winner of 80 tournaments around the world.

“She’s a golf icon, a legend,” says Lisa Gordon who won a draw to play with her golf hero today at the CP Women’s Open.

Davies’ strength on the fairway is matched by her humanity off the course.

Early this morning, she tweeted "Does anyone know a Jessica Redman who lost her iPad in an Avis car at Ottawa airport. I want to get it back to her."

“You know, she's got her name on the back of it and most people's iPads are their lives now,” Davies said before teeing off, “so we just want her to get it back.”

“The fact she would go to that level of effort,” adds Lisa Gordon, “I would do that as a good person, so to me it makes her an even better person.”

Davies knew it was a long shot, but a bit of digging on our part turned up one Jessica Redman, a nurse at the Ottawa Hospital.

“You’ve actually found her? Great.” Davies said.

Out went another tweet:  "Thanks everyone.  We found Jessica.”

“That just shows you the true character of the person,” says Davies’ fan David McIntyre, who had the famous golfer sign his cap today, “She’s always out there to help people.”

Jessica Redman was thrilled to hear from CTV that her iPad had been found, especially by someone of Davies’ stature. She had left it in the rental car on Saturday, after returning from a rugby tournament in Montreal and figured the iPad was long gone.

“I didn’t even know she was a golfer,” Redman said, but wasn’t surprised that Davies would go to the efforts she did to return her device.  She plans to connect with Davies to get it back and to say thanks.

As for Davies, she can now concentrate on her game and perhaps rack up another win.
