The Ottawa Senators and Andrew Hammond continued their impressive run edging the New York Islanders 2-1.
Senators rookie goalie Andrew Hammond made his 2nd straight start in as many nights.
Matt Puempel would break the scoreless tie in the 2nd period with his 2nd career NHL goal giving Ottawa a 1-0 lead. The only time Hammond would be rattled would be in the 2nd period when he takes a shot off his face mask. He would shake it off. His mask needed a little re-adjustment but he would be OK.
With under a minute left in the period, Mark Stone throws the puck at the net, Kyle Turris redirects it in for a 2-0 lead.
With 8 minutes left in the game Tyler Kennedy pulls the Islanders to within one. That’s as close as they would get as the Senators win 2-1.
Hammond made 35 saves for the victory. He remains undefeated in regulation going 9-0-1.
The Senators pull to within 5 points of the final playoff spot in the East.
