After two days, there are still residents who can't return home after a major fire on Beechwood Avenue in New Edinburgh.

People who live at 409 MacKay St. were evacuated from their homes and are still not allowed back in their apartments.

A city spokesperson says the building still isn't ready for people to return home because of extensive smoke and water damage.

Erika Blais, who lived next door to the Home Hardware where the fire broke out, said she's in the middle of a waiting game.

"We're not sure how long we'll be away from our home," she said. "We're still waiting for the fire marshal to make that decision."

Fire officials have ruled out arson as the cause of the fire.
