Earthquakes Canada has confirmed a 4.2 magnitude quake struck our region early Tuesday morning.
The tremor was centered 31 kilometers east of Buckingham, QC at about 4:05 a.m., lasting about ten to 15 seconds.
"This earthquake occured in what we refer to as the 'Western Quebec Seismic Zone,'" said seismologist Allison Bent. referring to the area stretching roughly from Montreal to Ottawa.
"We get on average a couple of earthquakes large enough to be felt in this region every month, they're not always quite as big as the one today but they're certainly not unknown."
CTV Ottawa viewers said they felt in Gatineau, Orleans, Barrhaven, Ottawa South, Alfred, Plantagenet, Cornwall and Hawkesbury.
No damage has been reported.
