A group of about 40 people dressed in red to support Canadian troops set out on a 200-kilometre run from Parliament Hill to Petawawa, Ont. Friday.

The group, made up of commissionaires and military personnel, is running along old Highway 17 for a two-day, run to raise money for the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre.

It's the first run to honour military families who support Canada's soldiers while they're in training and in combat.

"The whole community of Petawawa, the Upper Ottawa Valley, the Ottawa Valley in total -- they've shared in those sacrifices and they've stood up to that challenge with support and giving," Lt.-Cmdr. Bill Moore told CTV Ottawa prior to the run.

Runners will make several stops along the way and are expected to arrive in Petawawa Saturday afternoon.
