Skaters will be able to lace up their skates for some winter fun on the Rideau Canal beginning tomorrow morning.

The National Capital Commission is opening the canal for its 40th season of skating at 8 a.m. Thursday.

A 4.3 kilometre stretch of the canal will be open to skaters from the National Arts Centre to Lansdowne Park.

Maintenance crews have been flooding the canal and clearing snow on the skateway for the last several days to help maximize the thickness of the ice.
