Rainfall warning in effect for the first day of fall

It's a rainy start to fall in Ottawa.

A Rainfall Warning is in effect for Ottawa and eastern Ontario, calling for up to 60 millimetres of rain by Friday morning.

Environment Canada says a few localities could see 75 mm of rain.

"This widespread rainfall event is due to a cold front and a moisture laden low pressure system that will arrive from the American Mid-west," Environment Canada said.

As of 5 p.m., 18.8 mm of rain had been recorded at the Central Experimental Farm. As of 2 p.m., 8.8 mm of rain was recorded at the Ottawa Airport.

The forecast calls for 15 to 25 mm of rain tonight. A low of 17 C.

Thursday will see rain heavy at times, with the risk of a thunderstorm. Amount 15 to 25 mm. High of 23 C.

Showers will continue on Friday with a high of 20.

The outlook for the weekend is cloudy with a chance of showers Saturday and Sunday.
