Pokémon Go players at Dick Bell Park are paying more attention to where and when they park following a long weekend blitz.

Over the long weekend, by-law officers issued 264 tickets, worth nearly $12,000. Many of the tickets were given to cars parked illegally or parked in the lot past 11 p.m. City parks, unless stated otherwise, close at 11 p.m.

"There were vehicles everywhere," said Scott Campbell, the program manager for the city of Ottawa's enforcement unit. "On the lawns, on the grass, and even the entrances."

Campbell said by-law was doing regular checks of the park when officers stumbled upon a special Pokémon Go party. It's estimated that anywhere from 200 to 400 people are at the park to play the game on any given night.

"There are three Pokémon stops and people often lure them," said Jennifer Jean, an avid player. "That brings in more Pokémon and because it is an island, Pokémon can't get away."

Players at the park on Wednesday said they take extra pre-cautions to avoid tickets.

"I take Uber. It's easier," said one player.

Although more Pokémon come out at night, some players said they prefer to play during the day when parking is easier to find.

The nearby Nepean Sailing Club said it is working with the city of Ottawa to get better signage in the lot.
