If one Ottawa councillor gets his way, the Capital could soon be faced with a clean air mandate.

Coun. Clive Doucet says an increase in people being diagnosed with asthma points to a rising concern about the air we breathe.

Doucet says a forum he hosted on Sunday suggests people in Ottawa want the city's air quality cleaned up.

The Ottawa councillor says the city's smog levels are just as bad as those in Toronto, even though the Capital isn't home to the same types of industry.

He says that means the majority of Ottawa's pollution is coming from vehicles.

Doucet is calling for a fresh air summit to discuss the issue this fall.
