City officials say the Orgaworld composting plant in Ottawa won't accept waste from its sister facility in southern Ontario after the plant was temporarily shut down because of an odour problem.
Orgaworld's sister plant in London, Ont. temporarily halted operations after several odour complaints.
The plant accepts dirty diapers and plastic bags, unlike the Ottawa facility.
However, the odour problem in London is now raising concerns about the company's fight to process the same kind of waste at its Ottawa location.
The case went before Ontario's Environmental Review Tribunal in May. However, a judgment has not yet been made.
Coun. Peter Hume, who spearheaded Ottawa's green bin program, continues to fight to keep the unwanted waste out of the city's green bin program.
Orgaworld has a 20-year contract with the City of Ottawa to process 70,000 tonnes of organic waste per year. The contract gives the city final say on what kind of waste is allowed.
The Orgaworld plant in Ottawa opened on Hawthorne Road in January.
