An offensive-surge in the second period was all the Gatineau Olympiques needed Friday to defeat the Halifax Mooseheads 6-1 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Tomas Hyka and Martin Reway each scored twice and Dominic Poulin added one more as the Olympiques (1-2-0) scored five times in the middle period.

Poulin also scored in the third to round out Gatineau's offence, while Reway picked up an assist for a three-point night.

Nathan MacKinnon scored the lone goal for the Mooseheads (2-1-0).

Gatineau's Michael Nishi made 29 saves to pick up his first win of the season. Halifax's Zachary Fucale allowed four goals on 13 shots before leaving midway through the second period.

Chris Clarke stopped 15-of-17 shots in relief.

Gatineau went 2-for-7 on the power play, while Halifax failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

At Halifax, after a scoreless first period, Hyka opened the scoring 3:47 into the second.

MacKinnon responded for the Mooseheads less than a minute later, but that was the end of the offence for Halifax.

Reway scored a power-play goal at 9:55 to regain the lead for Gatineau. Hyka added his second at 11:52, Poulin followed up at 13:20 with another power-play goal and Reway buried his second of the game at 15:58 to round out the Olympiques' five-goal period.
