Many Ottawa commuters will have to make changes to their usual routes this spring.
As of Sunday, April 24 Campus Station will be closed to make way for construction of the O-Train Confederation Line. The uOttawa pedestrian and cycling underpass at the station will also be closed for the light rail project between Monday, May 2 and Monday, August 22.
Temporary adjustments will be made to connect travelers throughout construction. This includes additional capacity during peak periods on routes 5 and 14, which run along Elgin Street. It also means west-end afternoon peak period service will start at Mackenzie King Station instead of Campus Station.
Detour maps are being installed in the area to help users find alternative routes to their destinations.
At the same time, OC Transpo will be making seasonal reductions to better match ridership levels. On a number of routes, the first and/or last weekday trips may be canceled. Route 188 will end altogether due to low users, but nearby service will be available on Routes 92 and 162.
Another seasonal change is the Rack & Roll program. OC Transpo is installing more than 450 bike racks on their buses this spring.
As of April 30, students at Algonquin College, Carleton University, the University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University will no longer be able to use their U-Pass. After this date it will not be valid as a photo ID card.
