Next year's tax bill likely to take a big jump

City officials say next year's property tax hike is projected to go as high as 10.6 per cent.

The details come days after the City of Ottawa sent out tax bills to local residents.

The City's treasurer says higher fuel prices and a new contract with firefighters are two of many pressures they're facing for the 2009 budget.

Councillors, who will begin budget talks later this year, will start deliberations at a tax rate increase of close to five per cent.
