A 26-year-old Nepean man has been identified as one of two bodies found dead in the trunk of an abandoned rental car east of Toronto earlier this week.
Investigators found Puneet Singh Chhina and Harjinder Singh Sandhu, 28, of Brampton, Tuesday afternoon in the car that was parked near Taunton and Rosebank Roads in Pickering. They had been beaten and shot.
The car was rented from a Toronto rental agency and was first spotted by a bus driver who told Durham Regional Police she saw the car parked on the road Monday night at around 9:45 p.m.
Police say both men had been identified as missing persons in Peel Region. However, authorities are not releasing the causes of the two deaths because the investigation remains active.
Police add, however, they do not believe the killings were random and suspect the two men were the likely victims of a gang hit.
Chhina studied computer science at Laurentian University in Sudbury and worked at Dell's Kanata facility until it closed six months ago. He was in Toronto looking for another job.
His parents, Harry and Gina Chhina, called their son a victim of circumstances who was not a gang member.
"He grew up in a very safe environment," Harry told CTV Ottawa Friday afternoon. "He always had a smile on his face. He did not know what wickedness is."
