When Michael Gorley's teacher gave him a book featuring the work of Ryan Hreljac, they set the gears in motion for some remarkable work of his own.
Michael took inspiration from the story of the "Ryan's Well" founder whose charity provides clean water to 680 villages and started doing speaking engagements and fundraising for them, enough to buy a sanitation unit for a village in Uganda with help from the government.
His goal? The Grade 7 student wants to raise $25,000 by the end of his high school career to buy equipment capable of drilling hundreds of wells.
"It really caught on to me because little kids have to walk a couple times a day, five kilometers to get really unsanitary water," he said. "That's really unfair."
