The efforts of police, paramedics and the wife of an Orleans man who went into cardiac arrest were enough to re-start his heartbeat Saturday morning.

Paramedics said they responded to the call around 8 a.m. after the 47-year-old collapsed. His wife started CPR, taking instructions from paramedics communication.

Police then arrived and took over the CPR for the brief period until paramedics got there.

Paramedics said they took over care of the patient and defibrillated him several times, inserted a tube to assist with breathing as well as gave him medication to stimulate heart activity.

Their efforts were successful as the man's heartbeat then returned.

Paramedics said he was taken to hospital in critical condition, but on the way there he was semi-conscious and moving.

They said the last they heard, he was conscious, sitting up and talking to his family in hospital.
