There will be no chance for the tenants of a six-unit Glebe apartment building to retrieve their belongings. After an hours-long fire on Saturday, the building was reduced to rubble. The cause is still under investigation.

Fortunately for the residents, the Red Cross was able to find hotels for the displaced residents. No one was injured in the blaze, which caused $750,000 in damage, although a pedestrian passing by a nearby hydrant slipped and fell on the ice hard enough to be taken to hospital.

A building next door was also evacuated due to water damage and the hydro being shut off.

Investigators are trying to determine if there were working smoke detectors at 5 Monk St., the location of the blaze.
