Election officers in Gatineau say ballots will be counted by hand on Sunday.
"Polls are closing at 8 p.m.," said election officer Michelle Waters. "We figure results will start coming in around 9:15 p.m."
The move comes as a precaution after technical mishaps in Montreal and Quebec City in 2005.
Gatineau's municipal election did not suffer from the electronic counting system in 2005, however officers are saying it is the province's way of saying 'better safe than sorry.'
Quebec Ministry of Municipal Affairs has put a stop to electronic ballot counting since 2005.
The municipal election will be taking place Sunday, November 1, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m
